Winter Wedding Flowers

Whilst I love fresh flowers I really do not have a clue what is in season when and would be hopeless in suggesting which flowers would be beautiful for a winter celebration.  Thankfully Claire at Lily & May came to my assistance as a guest writer to advise you on flowers for a winter wedding. So I will pass you over to Claire for some gorgeous floral inspiration.

Some brides assume that having a winter wedding will compromise their selection of wedding flowers, but there are some lovely alternative blooms available this time of year (what other time of year can you hang mistletoe from doorways!). Below are a few of my favourite winter flowers that are sometimes overshadowed by the rose.

If opting for a rich and vibrant colour scheme the Anemone is a very pretty option which is available in some stunning colours.

The Ranunculus is another alternative which is also available in some very striking colours such as burnt oranges and deep purples.

Hippeastrum (better known as Amaryllis), is a real statement flower, available in varying shades of red and white

Some gorgeous varieties of Hydrangea are available during the winter months such as Glowing Alps (shown in the picture below).

If opting for a white and silver winter wonderland wedding the Phalaenopsis Orchid is a stunning option for bouquets or attached to willow for centre pieces.

Bouvardia with small clusters of delicate flowers can look really dainty amongst other flowers.

Eucalyptus can be used to complete the overall look of a bouquet, the silvery leaves really complement a white wedding.

Pussy Willow, Twisted Willow and Hypericum Berries are perfect options as to complement that wintery feel.

There are also some all year round alternatives such as Freesia, Rose and Gerberas which are all available in a vast array of colours.

Thank you Claire. I think you'll all agree there are some fabulous flowers for a winter wedding or any celebration and I would love that wreath on my door as an alternative to holly.
